Abstract

This study aims to identify alternative reducing agents to replace hydroxylamine hydrochloride (NH2OH·HCl) by using ascorbic acid (C6H8O6) and gambir (Uncaria gambir) in the reduction of Fe3+ to Fe2+, followed by its reaction with 1,10-phenanthroline to form a Fe2+ –phenanthroline complex. The analysis was conducted using UV–Vis spectrophotometry with variations in reducer concentration, pH, and reaction time to determine the optimum conditions. The results showed that NH2OH.HCl exhibited optimum conditions at a concentration of 6 ppm, a reaction time of 30 minutes, and a pH of 4.5, with a recovery of 86.137%. Ascorbic acid showed optimum conditions at a concentration of 4 ppm, a reaction time of 15 minutes, and a pH of 3, with a recovery of 100.268%. Meanwhile, gambir exhibited optimum conditions at a concentration of 4 ppm, a reaction time of 90 minutes, and a pH of 5, with a recovery of 85.049%.
