Abstract

The increasing number of individuals with hearing and speech impairments in Indonesia has not been matched by adequate access to inclusive sign language learning resources. One potential solution to address this issue is the use of Indonesian Sign Language (BISINDO), which is more natural and expressive compared to the Indonesian Sign System (SIBI). However, the distribution of BISINDO education remains limited, and existing learning materials tend to lack interactivity. Addressing this gap, this study focuses on the design and development of an educational BISINDO-based game application for Android using the ADDIE method (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The proposed solution is an RPG-style game that integrates Computer Vision technology with the YOLOv11 algorithm to detect users' hand gestures in real-time as game controllers. Usability testing using the System Usability Scale (SUS) yielded an average score of 69, placing the application in the Acceptable category with a Good rating. In-depth evaluation revealed that despite technical barriers to entry during the initial adaptation phase, the application demonstrated high learnability and provided an intuitive gaming experience. Furthermore, the measurement of Intention to Use recorded an average score of 4.00 (High). Results indicate that user motivation is predominantly driven by personal challenge and continuance intention, while social recommendation and the substitution of conventional methods proved insignificant. Overall, this application is viable for implementation as an immersive supplementary learning tool to support inclusive communication in Indonesia.
