Abstract

Early childhood education plays an important role in supporting physical, social, and cognitive development. In the Merdeka Curriculum, center-based learning methods such as role-playing are an effective approach to introduce children to real-life concepts, including transportation themes that are consistently included each semester. However, existing Educational Play Tools (APE) are still limited in terms of durability and flexibility. This study aims to design modular ride-on toys as an innovative solution to support role-playing learning focused on transportation themes. The research method involved collecting primary data through school observations and teacher interviews, supported by secondary data from books, journals, and official articles, followed by model studies, mock-ups, and prototype development. The product offers flexible configurations that support various transportation themes, improved durability compared to cardboard-based APE, and educational benefits through the development of both gross and fine motor skills. Additionally, the modular ride-on toys provide long-term efficiency for teachers by reducing the need to repeatedly create and repair APE, while also saving space and cost. This product is expected to serve as a practical and economical solution to support experiential learning in early childhood education.
