Abstract

In the 21st century, planning and production in the field of the shipping industry is developing rapidly. In the planning process, a designer must consider many things to achieve optimal efficiency in terms of economy or performance of a ship, including tankers. In terms of optimizing tanker design, increasing efficiency in cargo space volume and fuel use is of paramount importance. This research was carried out to continue existing research on tankers. Based on the study, the volume of the cargo space can be increased by 417.515 m3 so that a reduction in length of 1.122 m can be made in parallel middle body. Therefore, in this study, it was carried out to optimize the hull of the tanker to reduce resistance with variables in the form of the length of the cut part of the ship. The limitation used in the optimization process is that the ship cutting section is only in the loading space before the collision bulkhead and the number of payloads must be greater than or equal to the existing vessel. The optimization of the reduction of the resistance value in this study can achieve a resistance reduction of 409.189 kN or 5,929 %. The reduction in the length of the loading space resulted in a reduction in the volume of payloads carried by the ship from previous research. The payload reduction is 43,474.570 m3 with a difference of 0.110% from the existing ships.
