Abstract

The implementation of AI Dashcam technology in the mining industry represents a strategic innovation to mitigate work accident risks caused by fatigue and unsafe behaviors. However, the effectiveness of this technology's implementation is often hindered by end-user resistance. This study aims to analyze the acceptance level of hauling dump truck operators toward the use of AI Dashcams and to formulate managerial recommendations to enhance technology adoption and safety culture. This research employs a quantitative approach utilizing a modified Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) model, extended with the variables of Trust, Privacy Concerns, Surveillance Anxiety, and Safety Participation. Data were collected through a survey of 100 operators and analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The results indicate that the actual Use Behavior is relatively high (84.3%) and has a significant positive effect on increasing Safety Participation. However, psychologically, operator acceptance is hindered by two factors: Performance Expectancy has a negative influence on usage intention, indicating that operators perceive this technology as a hindrance to operational productivity; and high levels of Surveillance Anxiety and Privacy Concerns significantly reduce the level of Trust and acceptance intention. Based on these findings, this study recommends a shift in management strategy from a mandatory surveillance approach toward participatory empowerment. This strategy is expected to transform operator resistance into the reinforcement of a sustainable safety culture.
