Abstract
Mining industry, with its dangerous nature of operational activities, is exposed to multi-faceted risks, related to human, capital, environment, and operational aspects. To prevent this risks from occurring, companies have been focusing on performing risk management, to ensure that its goals, by short and long-term, can be achieved. PT.XYZ is a mining contractor has long been implementing risk management for its operation, with the aim of minimizing disruption and maintaining high performance of production. But in its application, risk management has not been conducted objectively based on quantified data, and risk identification is conducted very specifically per individual risk, thus company could not get a system view of the impact of each related risks. In analyzing risks, it is important to have a method that could give accurate and quantified results, which can better represent a system real condition by considering as well its related contextual and situational factors. A method that could provide this result is by using Bayesian Network, which can determine critical risks within a system, based on posterior probability of each risk identified. And being combined with other approach, in this research is the House of Risk framework, decision about what mitigation plans to be conducted to manage the risks can be generated. Using these two methods, operation risk assessment is conducted for Overburden removal process, starting by risk identification, with total 24 risks identified. Bayesian networks model is created to represents causal relationships between risks, where probability value of each risks are computed to generate prior and posterior probability. By proceeding with the House of Risk-1 Model, 8 critical risks are generated, then in the House of Risk-2 model, priority of mitigation action to mitigate critical risks are determined.
