Abstract

Sarongs are traditional Indonesian textile products that possess cultural, aesthetic, and religious value, with sustainable and seasonally increasing demand, especially ahead of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr. PT Ibrahim Bin Manrapi is a manufacturer of premium woven sarongs under the Lamiri brand, located in Gresik Regency, East Java, producing silk sarongs using non-machine looms (ATBM). The quality of the materials and distinctive patterns, combined with a production process that relies on manual labor skills, leads to process variations and defective products, thereby affecting quality consistency. This study aims to identify quality problems, determine dominant defects, measure production process capability, and analyze the root causes of defects in woven sarongs. The research method used is Six Sigma with the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) stages. However, this study is limited to the Improve stage, as the Control stage requires long-term implementation and evaluation. Data analysis techniques include SIPOC analysis, Pareto diagrams, P-charts, process capability analysis, Defects Per Million Opportunities (DPMO) and sigma level calculations, fishbone diagrams, and Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA). The results show that the production process is under control after improvements; however, the process capability index value of 0.553 indicates that the process is still not capable. The sigma value of 3.16 indicates a probability of defect-free products of approximately 93%. The main root causes of defects stem from labor and measurement factors, with the highest risk occurring in the motif dyeing process. This study is expected to help the company improve the effectiveness of quality control and the consistency of Lamiri woven sarong quality.
