Abstract

Halal tourism is considered to have strategic value for Indonesia due to its potential to attract a significant portion of the global Muslim travel market, leveraging the country's cultural and religious alignment. Understanding the drivers of Muslim travelers’ choices of halal tourism is essential for the improvement of Indonesia’s competitiveness. A quantitative method is used with primary data collection through online surveys of Muslim tourists in Indonesia. The data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). This study revealed that the factors do not all have significant effects on the intention to visit. Escapism and halal attributes do not have significant effects, possibly due to the prioritization of other factors such as spiritual refreshment and religiosity. However, the study revealed that halal destination image, spiritual refreshment, and religiosity have significant effects on the intention to visit. The study is important for policymakers who need information on the factors that influence Muslim tourists intention to visit halal tourism.
