Abstract

In the ship building process, one of the aspects that is taken into consideration is planning in the field of ship propulsion systems that must consider the design of rudders and propellers. The design and implementation of a good propeller design will improve the performance of the ship's propulsion system. Meanwhile, the application and design of the right rudder design will improve the ship's ability to process the movement. A side from a good and proportional design, the position of the rudder also affects the thrust and maneuverability of the ship. The purpose of this study is to analyze how much influence the distance between the rudder and propeller has on the thrust capability of the ship applied to the Kriso Container Ship (KCS). There are three distance variations used, namely based on DNV rules recommendations for single-screw ships, based on designs from KCS, and based on distance variations from previous studies. This research uses the CFD method with the help of Ansys Workbench software. The results of this study are in the form of recommendations for rudder and propeller distances that produce the most optimal thrust value, namely in distance variations based on DNV rules 0.1D with a thrust value of 3629 kN.
