Abstract
Bahan bakar biodiesel merupakan salah satu energi alternatif yang dapat digunakan sebagai pengganti bahan bakar diesel namun memiliki kadar NOx yang tinggi. Untuk dapat mengurangi tingginya kadar NOx yang dihasilkan pada biodiesel, maka dilakukan penambahan metanol yang diperkirakan dapat mengurangi emisi NOx dari biodiesel. Namun, karena perbedaan tegangan permukaan antar dua fase zat yang tinggi menyebabkan kedua zat ini tidak dapat bercampur. Oleh karena itu, digunakan metode pencampuran emulsi dan larutan yang dapat mengurangi tegangan permukaan antar biodiesel dan metanol. Pada penelitian ini, dilakukan perbandingan performa dan emisi Nox menggunakan bahan bakar biodiesel 50% (B50) dan metanol 15% (M15). Metode penelitian yang digunakan berbasis eksperimen dengan menggunakan bahan bakar B50M15 emulsi dan B50M15 larutan serta B50 sebagai pembanding. Hasil dari uji performa yang dilakukan, didapatkan penggunaan bahan bakar B50M15 emulsi dan larutan mengalami kenaikan performa yang cukup signifikan. Namun diantara kedua metode pencampuran bahan bakar, bahan bakar B50M15 emulsi memiliki performa yang lebih baik dibanding bahan bakar B50M15 larutan yang cukup signifikan. Untuk konsumsi bahan bakar dari B50M15 emulsi yang lebih tinggi sekitar 31% dibanding B50M15 larutan. Untuk torsi yang dihasilkan oleh bahan bakar B50M15 emulsi lebih besar sekitar 32% serta menghasilkan daya yang lebih besar sekitar 27% dibanding B50M15 Larutan. Hasil dari uji emisi NOx yang dilakukan, didapatkan kadar emisi NOx bahan bakar B50M15 Larutan lebih baik dibanding bahan bakar B50M15 emulsi yang cukup signifikan. Dimana lebih rendah sekitar 10% dibanding B30M20 emulsi; lebih rendah sekitar 26% dari B50 pada kadar emisi rata-rata yang dihasilkan

Biodiesel fuel is an alternative energy that can be used as a substitute for diesel fuel but has a high NOx content. In order to reduce the high levels of NOx produced in biodiesel, the addition of methanol is expected to reduce NOx emissions from biodiesel. However, due to the high surface tension difference between the two phases, these substances cannot be mixed. Therefore, the method of mixing emulsion and solution is used which can reduce the surface tension between biodiesel and methanol. In this study, a comparison of performance and NOx emissions was carried out using 50% biodiesel (B50) and 15% methanol (M15) as fuel. The research method used is experimental based using B50M15 emulsion fuel and B50M15 solution and B50 as a comparison. The results of the performance test carried out, it was found that the use of B50M15 emulsion and solution fuel experienced a significant increase in performance. However, between the two fuel mixing methods, B50M15 emulsion fuel has a significantly better performance than solution B50M15 fuel. The fuel consumption of B50M15 emulsion is about 31% higher than that of B50M15 solution. For the torque produced by the B50M15 emulsion fuel, it is about 32% larger and produces about 27% greater power than the Solution B50M15. The results of the NOx emission test carried out, it was found that the NOx emission levels of fuel B50M15 Solution were better than emulsified B50M15 fuel which were quite significant. which is about 10% lower than emulsion B30M20; approximately 26% lower than B50 at average emission levels
