Abstract

Cast Polypropylene (CPP) is widely used as a flexible packaging material for food and pharmaceutical products because it has good barrier properties against water vapor and oxygen. PT. XYZ, as a CPP producer, is responsible for maintaining product quality, especially for its flagship product, CPP Plastic Type A. Two main quality characteristics that receive special attention are the Water Vapor Transmission Rate (WVTR) and the Oxygen Transmission Rate (O₂TR). Based on laboratory data from the Quality Control department in 2024, about 21% of the total output of CPP Type A did not meet the specifications and therefore had to be reprocessed. This study aims to analyze the capability of the CPP Type A production process using a multivariate approach. Testing was conducted on the WVTR and O₂TR quality characteristics using the Multivariate Exponentially Weighted Moving Average (MEWMA) control chart to monitor process stability. This was followed by the calculation of the multivariate process capability index using MPCncv, and a cause-and-effect diagram analysis to identify the factors causing product nonconformity. The results show that the MPCncv component values in Phase I were 1.058 and 2.3027, and they increased in Phase II to 1.137 and 4.5654. Component 1 represents precision, while Component 2 represents accuracy. These results indicate that the production process is multivariately capable. However, several production constraints were still identified, mainly related to machine, human, and measurement factors, which may influence process stability and product quality.
