Abstract

International Maritime Organization (IMO) telah mengeluarkan strategi ambisius untuk menurunkan emisi GRK (greenhouse gas) global sebanyak 50% pada 2050 dan emisi karbon sebanyak 70% pada 2050. Terdapat beberapa alternatif dalam menurunkan emisi karbon, dimana salah satunya merupakan hydrogen fuel cells (HFCs). Teknologi HFCs diperkirakan dapat mengurangi emisi karbon hingga 80% dan memiliki efisiensi luaran 10% hingga 20% lebih besar daripada mesin diesel. Dalam penelitian ini, analisis kelayakan HFCs dilakukan melalui metode life-cycle analysis dan simple additive weighting dengan mempertimbangkan 3 jenis fuel cells (PEMFC, MCFC, SOFC) dan 4 jenis bahan bakar (Hidroge n hijau, hidrogen biru, hidrogen abu-abu, LNG). Analisis kelayakan menunjukkan bahwa kombinasi antara SOFC dengan hidrogen hijau menjadi opsi terbaik dalam pengurangan emisi karbon hingga 82% untuk kapal hybrid. Namun demikian, dikaji dari aspek finansial, opsi kapal hybrid dapat memberikan konsekuensi pengurangan pendapatan hingga 27% sebagai akibat dari pelebaran ruang mesin. Teknologi HFCs juga memberikan perusahaan nilai net present value yang lebih rendah dibandingkan menggunakan opsi kapal diesel.

International Maritime Organization has previously issued an ambitious strategy to decrease maritime carbon emission by by 70% in 2050. There are lots of alternatives in reducing carbon emission, with hydrogen fuel cells being one considered. Hydrogen fuel cells (HFCs) is projected to decrease maritime carbon emission up to 80% and has larger engine efficiency, roughly 10-20% higher than of diesel engine. In this research, feasibility analysis of HFCs was conducted through life cycle analysis and simple additive weighting by considering 4 types of fuel (green/blue/gray hydrogen and LNG) and 3 types of HFCs (PEMFC, MCFC and SOFC). Life cycle analysis showed that combination of Solid Oxide Fuel Cells and blue hydrogen came out as the best solution to reduce carbon emission up to 82% for hybrid-powered vessels. From financial perspective however, hybrid-engine option may reduce overall gross income by 27% since it required higher engine space. Furthermore, utilization of fuel cell resulted in a lower net present value as a result of higher investment cost compared to diesel-powered vessels.
