Abstract

The study of Organic Geochemistry through biomarker analysis of Air Laya-61 (AL-61) Muara Enim Formation, South Sumatra Basin has been successfully carried out. The analysis was carried out using the method of extraction, fractionation, and the use of Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometer (GC-MS). The abundance of homologous n-alkanes with a bimodal pattern, parameters such as Parameters CPI (1,61), LMW/HMW (0,03), LHCP (0,18), ACL(29,67), Wax Index(0,14), AlkTerr(0,51), TAR(24,00), Paq(0,18) C31/C19(33,96), C17/C29(0,08), C17/C31(0,03), biomarkers of aromatic hydrocarbons derived from naphthalene, phenanthrene derivatives, and pentacyclic triterpenoid aromatic groups indicate that the AL-61 Coal sample of the Muara Enim Formation came from various sources. CPI>1, LHCPI<1, ratio C31αβ22S/(22S + 22R)<1, the presence of isomeric hopanoid compounds, and the predominance of unsaturated compounds indicate a low level of thermal maturity. Organic compounds in AL-61 Coal were deposited in an oxic environment indicated by the Pr/Ph>3 ratio and Hunt Diagram. Based on the plot on the Hunt diagram, AL-61 coal is a type II/III mixed kerogen which has the potential to produce gas and oil (gas prone and oil prone). Through the organic geochemical characteristics that have been carried out, the AL-61 Coal sample has the potential to be used as a source of CBM (Coal Bed Methane).
