Abstract

Subsea pipeline systems that work at a certain depth on the seabed will inevitably fail if faced with unstable environmental conditions such as the influence of waves and currents. The influence of these environmental conditions will cause Vortex Induced Vibration (VIV), if this conditions not analyzed when designing the pipe, it will cause a free span which will caused the failure of the pipe system. Therefore, it is necessary to calculate the Maximum Allowable Free Span Length (MAFSL) on the riser KLB platform. The riser is located at Offshore Platform North West Java approximately 80 – 200km North-East of Jakarta. The KLB platform is one of five platforms planned by Pertamina Hulu Energi Offshore Northwest Java (PHE ONWJ) to replace and install a new pipeline. The calculation of MAFSL on the riser at KLB platform that has an outer diameter of 323.9mm and a length of 1km is using MathCAD software, this calculation also using codes and standards based on DNV RP C205 and DNV 1981. The conclusion of this analysis is that it is known that the length of the span from the clamp elevation point of 0.610m to -7.620m which is 8.23m is still safe because the value does not exceed the MAFSL which is 16,042m and from the clamp elevation point -7.620m to -15.00m the length of the span is also still safe which is 7.38m because it does not exceed MAFSL which is 21.517m.
