Abstract

Earthquakes are among the most prevalent natural disasters in Indonesia. Surabaya is one of the cities in Indonesia that could be affected by an earthquake. According to the National Earthquake Study Center, Surabaya is situated on two faults that have the potential to cause earthquakes, notably the Kendeng Fault and the Waru Fault. With a projected maximum magnitude of 6.5, the fault splits Surabaya into two halves, North and South. Buildings that cracked, collapsed, and were demolished were among the most severe effects of the earthquake. As a result, disaster insurance is effective in providing protection against risks that result in a substantial enough loss for the insured party. This study looks at how the net premium principle and variance principle can be used to calculate building insurance rates. The buildings employed in this study include residential buildings and non-engineered masonry buildings found in 154 urban villages in the city of Surabaya. The Generalized Extreme Value distribution is appropriate for the extreme values of the research data, whereas the 3-Parameter Lognormal distribution is appropriate for the loss data. In this study, data N is assumed to follow a Poisson distribution. This research is furthered by determining the value of collective risk in order to compute the insurance premium rate. As a result of this computation, the higher the loading factor, the higher the premium rate. In this study, a big loss computation was also performed utilizing the Value at Risk approach. This research can help insurance firms estimate the premium rates that policyholders must pay.
