Abstract

The industrial internship was conducted at the Engineering & Manufacturing Department, Quality Control Section of PT Bukit Asam Tbk from February 17 to June 17, 2025. During the internship, the author participated in material testing, mechanical and chemical property analysis, quality control activities, and failure analysis of heavy equipment components. The special project, entitled Abrasive Wear Solution Through Crusher Teeth Remanufacturing in the Feeder Breaker Assembly Conveyor System at PT Bukit Asam Tbk, aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of remanufacturing as an alternative to replacing worn crusher teeth operating under severe abrasive conditions. The study employed literature review, field observation, technical discussions with engineers, dimensional measurements, chemical composition analysis using X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF), hardness testing, observation of the Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) process, and technical and economic analyses. The remanufacturing process utilized OK 48.04 electrodes as the build-up layer, OK 67.45 as the buffer layer, and OK 84.78 as the hardfacing layer to improve wear resistance. The results showed that the remanufacturing process successfully restored the dimensions and functionality of the crusher teeth, enabling them to be reused. The method achieved a cost reduction of more than 95% compared with purchasing new components and reduced equipment downtime to approximately 168–192 hours. Therefore, remanufacturing is an effective, efficient, and economical solution for improving equipment reliability and maintaining production continuity in the mining industry.
