Abstract

This industrial internship was carried out at PT Cirebon Power Services, focusing on the analysis of the Sea Water Make Up Pump (SWMP). This study aims to determine the most appropriate maintenance method for the pump and to analyze potential component failures using the Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) method. The Sea Water Make Up Pump plays a crucial role as the main seawater supplier directed to the Water Treatment Plant for purification and use in the power plant's steam generation cycle. Research data were collected through literature studies, direct field observations, and interviews with company supervisors. Based on the data processing using the FMEA method, eight pump components were analyzed: Impeller, Bearing, Shaft, Gland Packing, Motor, Coupling, Valve Discharge, and Thrust Bearing. The critical Risk Priority Number (RPN) threshold obtained from this analysis was 106.9. The calculation results indicated that the Impeller (with an RPN of 120) and Bearing (with an RPN of 108) exceeded this critical threshold. Impeller damage is generally caused by abrasion and cavitation from seawater, while bearing failure is often triggered by a lack of lubrication or dirt ingress. In conclusion, the implementation of routinely scheduled preventive maintenance is highly necessary, with top priority given to the impeller and bearing components. This step has proven effective in reducing the frequency of component damage, preventing sudden breakdowns, and maintaining the efficiency and reliability of pump operations.
