Abstract
Analisis dilakukan berdasarkan data aktual proses pemesinan tanpa mengganggu aktivitas produksi.

Tool life is an important aspect in machining processes as it affects process stability, workpiece surface quality, and production costs. In industrial practice, experimental tool life testing is often difficult to conduct due to time constraints and production demands, so tool life determination is generally based on company operational policies and historical data. PT.X currently applies special tools in the machining process of flange holes on starter bracket components with a standard tool life of 10,000 pcs per tool. This study aims to determine the optimal tool life and cutting speed using the Taylor equation with a minimum unit cost approach, as well as to compare the tool cost per piece between the minimum unit cost condition and the existing company condition. The analysis was conducted based on actual machining process data without disrupting production activities. The results show that the optimal cutting speed of 210 m/min produces a tool life of 339 minutes, which is 102% longer than the existing condition with a cutting speed of 250 m/min that yields a tool life of 167.96 minutes. The minimum unit cost condition also produces a reduction in tool cost per piece of 41.03% for flange hole 1 and 41.10% for flange hole 2, as well as a reduction in total machining cost of 10.84% and 21.25% for each respective flange hole.
