Abstract

Mesin belt press merupakan peralatan utama pada Unit Waste Water Treatment (WWT) PT. Pabrik Kertas Tjiwi Kimia, Tbk yang berfungsi untuk mengurangi kadar air pada sludge hasil pengolahan limbah. Keandalan mesin sangat dipengaruhi oleh kondisi komponen drive roll, khususnya shaft yang berfungsi sebagai penerus daya putar. Selama pelaksanaan magang ditemukan kerusakan berupa keausan pada dudukan bearing shaft drive roll yang menyebabkan getaran tinggi, slip, dan penurunan efisiensi kerja mesin. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengidentifikasi penyebab kerusakan, melaksanakan proses rekondisi shaft drive roll, serta memberikan rekomendasi pencegahan agar kerusakan serupa tidak terulang. Metode yang digunakan meliputi observasi lapangan, studi literatur, wawancara dengan operator dan tim maintenance, pengukuran dimensi komponen, analisis penyebab kerusakan, serta proses rekondisi melalui pengelasan menggunakan elektroda E7018 yang dilanjutkan dengan pembubutan hingga mencapai dimensi sesuai spesifikasi bearing. Selanjutnya dilakukan pemasangan kembali dan pengujian fungsi mesin. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa kerusakan shaft drive roll dipengaruhi oleh keausan pada dudukan bearing, pelumasan yang kurang optimal, beban kerja yang tinggi, getaran selama operasi, serta keterlambatan penanganan akibat kurang efektifnya pelaporan kerusakan. Proses rekondisi berhasil mengembalikan dimensi dudukan bearing sesuai standar sehingga putaran drive roll kembali stabil, getaran berkurang, dan mesin belt press dapat beroperasi secara normal. Metode rekondisi ini terbukti lebih efisien dari sisi waktu dan biaya dibandingkan penggantian shaft baru. Penerapan inspeksi berkala, sistem pelumasan yang baik, dan komunikasi yang efektif antara operator dan tim maintenance diperlukan untuk meningkatkan keandalan mesin dan mencegah kerusakan berulang.

The belt press machine is one of the primary units in the Waste Water Treatment (WWT) facility at PT. Pabrik Kertas Tjiwi Kimia, Tbk, functioning to reduce the water content of sludge generated from wastewater treatment. The reliability of the machine is highly dependent on the condition of the drive roll, particularly the shaft that transmits rotational power. During the internship, severe wear was identified on the *drive roll shaft bearing seat*, resulting in excessive vibration, slippage, and decreased machine performance. This study aimed to identify the causes of the damage, perform the reconditioning process of the drive roll shaft, and provide recommendations to prevent similar failures in the future. The study employed field observations, literature review, interviews with operators and maintenance personnel, dimensional measurements of the damaged component, failure analysis, and shaft reconditioning through shielded metal arc welding using E7018 electrodes followed by machining to restore the original bearing-seat dimensions. After the repair process, the component was reassembled and tested under operating conditions. The results indicate that the shaft damage was primarily caused by bearing-seat wear, inadequate lubrication, high operating loads, continuous vibration, and delayed maintenance due to ineffective reporting. The reconditioning process successfully restored the shaft dimensions according to bearing specifications, resulting in stable *drive roll* rotation, reduced vibration, and normal operation of the *belt press* machine. Compared with replacing the shaft, the reconditioning method proved to be more cost-effective and time-efficient. Regular inspections, proper lubrication practices, and effective communication between operators and the maintenance team are recommended to improve machine reliability and minimize recurring failures.
