Abstract
Korosi pada baja ASTM A36 merupakan fenomena degradasi material yang tidak dapat dihindari akibat interaksi termodinamika dengan lingkungan, terutama pada sektor industri minyak, gas, dan konstruksi. Penggunaan inhibitor organik saat ini menjadi alternatif yang diprioritaskan karena lebih ramah lingkungan dibandingkan inhibitor anorganik yang bersifat toksik. Penelitian ini mengevaluasi potensi ekstrak kulit singkong (Manihot esculenta) sebagai inhibitor korosi hijau karena mengandung lignoselulosa, gugus hidroksil (-OH), dan cincin aromatik yang mampu teradsorpsi pada permukaan logam. Sebagai pengembangan dari penelitian sebelumnya, ekstrak diperoleh melalui metode maserasi dan diuji efektivitasnya dalam media korosif HCl 1 M. Variasi konsentrasi inhibitor yang digunakan adalah 0%, 16,67%, 20,00%, 23,08%, 25,93%, dan 28,57% dengan waktu perendaman selama 12, 24, dan 36 jam. Karakterisasi dilakukan secara komprehensif menggunakan metode Weight Loss, Polarisasi Potensiodinamik, Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) untuk menganalisis mekanisme elektrokimia, Gas Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) untuk mengidentifikasi senyawa aktif, serta Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) untuk mengamati topografi permukaan pada skala nano. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak kulit singkong mampu menurunkan laju korosi secara efektif pada konsentrasi 16,67%, dengan efisiensi optimum dicapai pada konsentrasi 20,00%. Peningkatan konsentrasi menjadi 23,08%, 25,93%, dan 28,57% menunjukkan terjadinya kondisi jenuh sehingga efektivitas inhibitor tidak lagi meningkat secara signifikan. Secara keseluruhan, ekstrak kulit singkong terbukti efektif sebagai inhibitor korosi hijau untuk baja ASTM A36 dalam lingkungan korosif HCl 1 M.

Corrosion of ASTM A36 steel is an inevitable material degradation process caused by thermodynamic interactions with the surrounding environment, particularly in the oil, gas, and construction industries. Organic corrosion inhibitors have become a preferred alternative because they are more environmentally friendly than conventional toxic inorganic inhibitors. This study evaluates the potential of cassava peel (Manihot esculenta) extract as a green corrosion inhibitor due to its lignocellulose content, hydroxyl (-OH) functional groups, and aromatic rings, which are capable of adsorbing onto metal surfaces. As an extension of previous studies, the extract was obtained using the maceration method and its effectiveness was evaluated in a 1 M HCl corrosive medium. The inhibitor concentrations investigated were 0%, 16.67%, 20.00%, 23.08%, 25.93%, and 28.57%, with immersion times of 12, 24, and 36 hours. Comprehensive characterization was performed using the Weight Loss method, Potentiodynamic Polarization, Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) to analyze the electrochemical mechanism, Gas Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) to identify active compounds, and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) to observe nanoscale surface topography. The results demonstrate that cassava peel extract effectively reduced the corrosion rate at a concentration of 16.67%, with the optimum inhibition efficiency achieved at a concentration of 20.00%. Further increases in concentration to 23.08%, 25.93%, and 28.57% resulted in a saturation effect, indicating that no significant improvement in inhibition performance was achieved. Overall, cassava peel extract proved to be an effective green corrosion inhibitor for ASTM A36 steel in a 1 M HCl corrosive environment.
