Abstract

VANETs are an attractive technology in the field of Intelligent Transport System (ITS), in terms of driving safety and convenient network services for vehicle users. However, the high mobility of VANETs makes the topology change frequently which results in unavailability of routes and communication failures between nodes. One of the routing protocols that is considered to provide a solution to communication problems in the VANETs environment is Greedy perimeter stateless routing (GPSR). GPSR is a geographic routing protocol that works using information on the location of neighboring nodes and the transmission range to the nearest destination node. However, GPSR does not always find the optimal route, because not all nearby nodes can forward packets to their destination during heavy traffic scenarios and many intersections. Therefore, in the analysis of this research, the overlay network and forwarding node selection methods will be used to solve problems in the GPSR routing protocol related to communication instability due to changing node positions. Based on the results of testing and analysis that has been carried out on a grid scenario with 50 nodes, the result of Packet Delivery Ratio is 32.03 %, while the results of the real scenario with the same node produce a value of 64.0 %. In the End to End Delay analysis in a grid scenario of 50 nodes it produces 5.64 m/s while the results of a real scenario with 50 nodes produces a value of 24.11 m/s. In the Routing Overhead analysis, the grid scenario with 50 nodes produces a value of 39.978 packet, while the results of the real scenario with 50 nodes get a value of ix 10.239 packet. With the analysis of the two methods, it is expected to increase the average value of package delivery.
