Abstract

This internship report evaluates the molasses-based bioethanol production process at PT Energi Agro Nusantara, focusing on fermentation and refinery units. Beyond operational oversight, it addresses troubleshooting the impact of raw material quality—specifically Total Sugar (TS) and Volatile Acidity (VA)—on ethanol conversion efficiency. Analysis demonstrates that higher TS levels decrease the molasses consumption ratio, indicating improved conversion efficiency. Conversely, high VA can inhibit yeast activity, requiring optimized operating conditions such as pH and temperature. Technical evaluations include mass and energy balance calculations, along with hazard identification using the HAZOP method for production units. The report recommends strict control of fermentation parameters to ensure stable ethanol yields amidst raw material quality variations
