Abstract
Magang industri dilaksanakan di PT Berkah Industri Mesin Angkat (PT BIMA), Surabaya, anak perusahaan PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) yang bergerak di bidang port engineering services, pemeliharaan, perbaikan, dan procurement spare parts alat pelabuhan, selama periode 10 Februari–10 Juni 2025. Kegiatan magang bertujuan untuk mengaplikasikan ilmu yang diperoleh selama perkuliahan di Departemen Teknik Mesin Industri, mengenal lingkungan kerja serta alat-alat berat pelabuhan yang dikelola PT BIMA, dan secara khusus menganalisis kerusakan yang terjadi pada Cylinder Blok Engine Cummins NTA 855-G4 Unit Rubber Tyred Gantry (RTG) 40 di Terminal Berlian, Tanjung Perak, Surabaya. Metode yang digunakan dalam penyelesaian tugas khusus meliputi diskusi dan pembelajaran bersama mekanik di lapangan, studi literatur, serta pengambilan data spesifikasi dan data kerusakan komponen mesin. Hasil pembongkaran (overhaul) menunjukkan bahwa Engine Cummins NTA 855-G4 mengalami penurunan performa berupa tenaga mesin melemah, konsumsi oli meningkat, suhu kerja tidak stabil, suara kasar, serta indikasi blowby. Analisis lebih lanjut menemukan kerusakan pada beberapa komponen internal, di antaranya ring piston, cylinder liner, conrod bearing, main bearing, thrust washer, bushing camshaft, crankshaft assy, dan cylinder block, yang sebagian besar disebabkan oleh gesekan berlebih antar-komponen serta korosi pada main journal crankshaft. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut, disimpulkan bahwa kerusakan cylinder block terjadi akibat kombinasi keausan mekanis dan kurangnya pemeliharaan preventif, sehingga direkomendasikan penerapan preventive maintenance secara berkala guna mencegah kerusakan serupa pada unit RTG lainnya.

The industrial internship was carried out at PT Berkah Industri Mesin Angkat (PT BIMA), Surabaya, a subsidiary of PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) engaged in port engineering services, maintenance, repair, and spare parts procurement for port equipment, over the period of February 10 to June 10, 2025. The internship aimed to apply the knowledge gained during coursework at the Department of Industrial Mechanical Engineering, to become familiar with the working environment and heavy equipment operated by PT BIMA, and specifically to analyze the damage occurring in the Cylinder Block of the Cummins NTA 855-G4 Engine of Rubber Tyred Gantry (RTG) Unit 40 at Berlian Terminal, Tanjung Perak, Surabaya. The methods used to complete the special assignment included discussions and field learning with mechanics on site, literature study, and data collection on equipment specifications and component damage. The overhaul results showed that the Cummins NTA 855-G4 engine experienced performance degradation, including reduced engine power, increased oil consumption, unstable operating temperature, abnormal engine noise, and indications of blow-by. Further analysis identified damage to several internal components, including the piston ring, cylinder liner, connecting rod bearing, main bearing, thrust washer, camshaft bushing, crankshaft assembly, and cylinder block, mostly caused by excessive friction between components as well as corrosion on the crankshaft's main journal. Based on these findings, it was concluded that the cylinder block damage resulted from a combination of mechanical wear and insufficient preventive maintenance, and it is recommended that scheduled preventive maintenance be implemented to prevent similar damage in other RTG units.
