Abstract

Chimney lifting operations in a Waste Heat Boiler (WHB) project require careful planning due to their high operational risk. In the actual project, a 130-ton crane was used to lift a maximum load of approximately 8.7 tons, indicating potential inefficiency in crane capacity utilization. This study aims to determine the most optimal crane capacity by evaluating 85-ton, 90-ton, 95-ton, 100-ton, 110-ton, 120-ton, and 130-ton crane alternatives. The analysis was conducted based on crane utilization in accordance with EN 13000, stability analysis, Ground Bearing Pressure (GBP), and a weighted scoring method using the criteria of safety, technical capability, operational flexibility, and economy. The results show that the 95-ton crane achieved the highest weighted score of 4.0, outperforming the actual 130-ton crane, which obtained a score of 3.8. The 95-ton crane satisfied all technical and safety requirements while providing more optimal utilization and better capacity efficiency. These findings indicate that crane selection should not be based solely on nominal lifting capacity but should also consider safety, technical performance, operational flexibility, and economic efficiency.
