Abstract
Pupuk NPK Nitrat merupakan pupuk majemuk yang mengandung unsur hara nitrogen (N), fosfor (P), dan kalium (K) dalam bentuk yang mudah tersedia bagi tanaman. Dalam rangka meningkatkan kapasitas produksi dan diversifikasi produk, PT Pupuk Kujang mengembangkan fasilitas produksi baru untuk pupuk NPK Nitrat. Meskipun formulasi kimia produk telah memenuhi spesifikasi mutu, proses produksi masih menghadapi kendala pada kualitas fisik granula, terutama terkait kekerasan dan kadar air. Salah satu faktor yang memengaruhi karakteristik tersebut adalah penggunaan filler pada proses granulasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengevaluasi pengaruh penggunaan filler gypsum 100% dan filler campuran yang terdiri atas 40% kaolin, 30% bentonite, dan 30% white clay terhadap kualitas fisik granula pupuk NPK Nitrat. Evaluasi dilakukan dengan membandingkan karakteristik granula yang dihasilkan berdasarkan parameter kekerasan, kadar air, serta potensi biaya penggunaan filler. Hasil percobaan menunjukkan bahwa jenis filler memberikan pengaruh yang nyata terhadap kualitas fisik granula. Filler campuran menghasilkan granula dengan kekerasan yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan gypsum 100%, yang menunjukkan efektivitas kombinasi mineral lempung dalam membentuk struktur granula yang lebih padat dan kompak melalui sifat plastis dan kemampuan ikat yang dimilikinya. Meskipun kadar air granula dengan filler campuran sedikit lebih tinggi, nilainya masih berada dalam batas yang dapat diterima sehingga tidak menurunkan mutu produk. Selain itu, filler campuran memiliki potensi biaya yang kompetitif dibandingkan gypsum 100%. Dengan demikian, penggunaan filler campuran berpotensi menjadi alternatif yang lebih baik secara teknis dan ekonomis untuk meningkatkan kualitas fisik granula pupuk NPK Nitrat serta mendukung upaya troubleshooting pada proses produksi di PT Pupuk Kujang.

NPK nitrate fertilizer is a compound fertilizer containing the essential nutrients nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K) in forms that are readily available for plant uptake. To increase production capacity and diversify its fertilizer products, PT Pupuk Kujang has developed a new production facility dedicated to manufacturing NPK nitrate fertilizer. Although the chemical formulation of the product has met the required quality specifications, the production process still encounters challenges related to the physical quality of the fertilizer granules, particularly granule hardness and moisture content. One of the key factors affecting these characteristics is the type of filler used during the granulation process. This study aims to evaluate the effect of using 100% gypsum filler and a mixed filler consisting of 40% kaolin, 30% bentonite, and 30% white clay on the physical quality of NPK nitrate fertilizer granules. The evaluation was conducted by comparing the granule characteristics based on hardness, moisture content, and the potential cost of filler utilization. The experimental results indicate that the type of filler significantly affects the physical quality of the granules. The mixed filler produced granules with higher hardness than those produced using 100% gypsum, demonstrating that the combination of clay minerals is more effective in forming a denser and more compact granule structure due to their plasticity and binding properties. Although the moisture content of granules produced with the mixed filler was slightly higher, it remained within an acceptable range and did not compromise product quality. Furthermore, the mixed filler exhibited competitive cost potential compared with 100% gypsum. Therefore, the mixed filler represents a technically and economically promising alternative for improving the physical quality of NPK nitrate fertilizer granules and supporting troubleshooting efforts in the production process at PT Pupuk Kujang.
