Abstract

Magang industri dilaksanakan di PT Pupuk Kujang sebagai salah satu perusahaan petrokimia nasional yang memproduksi amonia, urea, dan berbagai jenis pupuk NPK. Kegiatan magang bertujuan untuk memahami proses produksi, sistem utilitas, pengendalian mutu, penerapan keselamatan dan kesehatan kerja (K3), serta penerapan ilmu teknik kimia industri dalam dunia kerja. Selain melakukan observasi terhadap proses produksi mulai dari pengolahan bahan baku hingga produk akhir, dilakukan pula studi kasus pada pengembangan formulasi pupuk NPK Nitrat melalui analisis pengaruh pengurangan kadar fosfat (P₂O₅) terhadap crushing strength dan kadar air granul. Identifikasi permasalahan dilakukan menggunakan metode 5W+1H dan fishbone diagram untuk menentukan faktor-faktor yang memengaruhi kualitas fisik produk. Selanjutnya dilakukan percobaan pada beberapa variasi formulasi, diikuti pengujian karakteristik fisik granul untuk mengevaluasi hubungan antara komposisi bahan baku dengan kualitas produk. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa kadar fosfat memberikan pengaruh terhadap sifat mekanik dan kadar air granul sehingga perlu ditentukan komposisi yang optimal agar mutu produk tetap memenuhi spesifikasi. Selain itu, selama pelaksanaan magang diperoleh pemahaman mengenai integrasi proses produksi, pengendalian mutu, manajemen keselamatan, serta pentingnya pendekatan analisis dalam penyelesaian permasalahan proses industri. Pengalaman ini meningkatkan kompetensi teknis dan profesional sebagai bekal memasuki dunia industri.

The industrial internship was conducted at PT Pupuk Kujang, one of Indonesia's leading petrochemical companies producing ammonia, urea, and various NPK fertilizers. The internship aimed to enhance understanding of fertilizer manufacturing processes, utility systems, quality control, occupational health and safety (OHS), and the practical implementation of industrial chemical engineering principles. In addition to observing the overall production process from raw material preparation to final products, a troubleshooting case study was carried out to investigate the effect of reducing phosphate (P₂O₅) content on the crushing strength and moisture content of NPK nitrate fertilizer granules. Problem identification was performed using the 5W+1H method and fishbone analysis to determine the major factors affecting product quality. Experimental trials with several fertilizer formulations were then conducted, followed by physical property testing to evaluate the relationship between raw material composition and granule quality. The results indicated that phosphate content significantly influences the mechanical strength and moisture content of fertilizer granules, emphasizing the importance of optimizing formulation to maintain product quality. Furthermore, the internship provided valuable insights into process integration, quality assurance, safety management, and systematic problem-solving in industrial operations. Overall, this experience strengthened both technical knowledge and professional competencies required in the chemical process industry.
