Abstract

The availability of slow-moving transmission spare parts is crucial for system reliability, but their infrequent usage can create a trade-off between operational needs and inventory cost efficiency. The company must keep spare parts in stock to prevent equipment downtime. The need for spare parts usage is classified as uncertain. This leads to the tendency of operational units to purchase spare parts to secure stock in each warehouse. Based on these conditions, over a long period, it will lead to a high value of spare parts inventory. Some of the impacts of this condition will increase unused working capital, accelerate obsolescence, and raise warehouse handling costs. These conditions highlight the need for inventory management strategies that can balance operational reliability with supply risk and financial efficiency. This study uses Poisson calculations as a projection of needs based on equipment failure rates. From the calculation results, it is known that it can reduce costs by 34% and the final balance decrease is 61% lower compared to the existing policy in the 7-year projection. This can help the Company save on purchases and reduce the risk of accumulation. To optimize material inventory, simulations were conducted using methods without risk pooling, with full risk pooling, and with partial risk pooling. Without risk pooling, there are advantages of high fill rate and high response to disruptions. Meanwhile, with full risk pooling, there are advantages of low holding cost and high material absorption. Lastly, with partial risk pooling, there are moderate advantages where the response to disruptions and fill rate are better compared to full risk pooling, and holding cost is better compared to without risk pooling.
