Abstract

Laporan magang ini disusun berdasarkan pelaksanaan program magang mandiri di PT Petrokimia Gresik, khususnya pada Departemen Operasi Pabrik III B yang mengelola unit produksi asam sulfat, asam fosfat, purified gypsum, dan aluminium fluorida (AlF₃). Kegiatan magang bertujuan untuk mengintegrasikan kompetensi akademik dengan praktik industri, memahami proses produksi secara menyeluruh, serta menyelesaikan permasalahan teknis melalui pendekatan troubleshooting. Pembahasan mencakup profil perusahaan, proses produksi, pengendalian kualitas, penerapan keselamatan dan kesehatan kerja (K3L), pengelolaan limbah, serta analisis teknik berupa penyusunan neraca massa, neraca energi, dan kajian Hazard and Operability Study (HAZOP) pada unit produksi AlF₃. Selain itu, laporan mengangkat studi kasus mengenai penurunan kinerja alat centrifuge akibat pembentukan cake silika yang memengaruhi efisiensi proses pemisahan padat-cair. Analisis dilakukan menggunakan metode identifikasi akar penyebab (root cause analysis) serta simulasi proses dengan perangkat lunak Aspen Plus untuk mengevaluasi alternatif perbaikan kondisi operasi. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa optimalisasi parameter operasi dan pengendalian pembentukan cake silika berpotensi meningkatkan efisiensi pemisahan, menjaga stabilitas operasi, serta mendukung kualitas produk aluminium fluorida. Secara keseluruhan, kegiatan magang memberikan pemahaman komprehensif mengenai penerapan prinsip teknik kimia di industri pupuk dan bahan kimia, sekaligus meningkatkan kemampuan analisis, pemecahan masalah, dan penerapan aspek keselamatan proses dalam lingkungan industri.

This internship report was prepared based on the independent internship program conducted at PT Petrokimia Gresik, specifically within the Plant Operations Department III B, which manages the production units of sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, purified gypsum, and aluminum fluoride (AlF₃). The internship aimed to integrate academic knowledge with industrial practices, develop a comprehensive understanding of chemical manufacturing processes, and address technical challenges through a systematic troubleshooting approach. The report covers the company's profile, production processes, quality control systems, occupational health, safety, and environmental (HSE) management, waste treatment practices, as well as engineering analyses involving mass and energy balance calculations and a Hazard and Operability Study (HAZOP) of the AlF₃ production unit. Furthermore, the report presents a case study on the performance degradation of a centrifuge caused by silica cake formation, which adversely affected the efficiency of the solid-liquid separation process. The problem was analyzed using root cause analysis and process simulation with Aspen Plus to evaluate potential operational improvements. The results indicate that optimizing operating parameters and controlling silica cake formation can significantly improve separation efficiency, enhance process stability, and maintain the quality of aluminum fluoride products. Overall, the internship provided comprehensive insight into the practical application of chemical engineering principles in the fertilizer and chemical industries while strengthening analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and the implementation of process safety principles in an industrial environment.
