Abstract

Road infrastructure plays an important role in supporting mobility and economic activities; therefore, pavement conditions need to be monitored accurately and continuously. This study aims to analyze changes in pavement conditions on the Suramadu Bridge using LIDAR point cloud data based on Airborne Laser Scanning (ALS) combined with orthophoto imagery. The method includes processing point cloud data into a Digital Elevation Model (DEM), identifying pavement distress through visual interpretation of orthophotos, and conducting quantitative analysis of pothole depth based on elevation data. The reference elevation is determined using the average elevation of the left and right sides to account for the cross slope of the road surface. The results indicate dynamic changes in pavement conditions, characterized by both increases and decreases in pothole depth at several observation points. Increased depth indicates ongoing degradation, while reductions to zero or negative values indicate repair activities, which are ALS verified through visual changes in the orthophoto. Depth changes at several points reach several centimeters and influence the hazard classification from high to low levels. In addition, pavement changes are more dominant in the vertical aspect rather than in the horizontal extent. This study demonstrates that the integration of multitemporal LIDAR data and orthophotos is effective for accurately identifying and evaluating pavement distress.
