Abstract

Many studies have examined the factors of digital technology adoption, but there remains a gap in empirical understanding regarding the next stage, namely the utilization of data generated by the adopted technology. Modern POS systems are a source of valuable transactional data such as sales volume, customer preferences, and demand patterns, which, when processed through data analytics, can provide strategic insights for business process performance. This study aims to analyze the factors influencing the utilization of Point of Sale (POS) data analytics and its impact on business process performance in Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). In this study, data were used from 139 respondents who were owners/managers or those who had a role in strategic decision-making in MSMEs who had been using POS systems with data analytics features for more than six months. This data was analyzed to test the structural model and mediation role using Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS software. The results of this study indicate that in the context of technology, the factors that significantly influence data utilization are perceived benefits (Relative Advantage) and data quality (Data Quality), while the perception of system complexity (Perceived Complexity) has no significant effect. From the environmental perspective, market competitive pressure (Competitive Pressure) and technical support from system providers (Vendor/Developer Support) are proven to be crucial drivers. In contrast, the variables of leadership support (Top Management Support) and the level of data understanding (Data Literacy) were found to have no significant influence. In addition, testing of MSME demographic control variables including business age, business size, and transaction intensity showed that these factors did not have a significant influence on the level of data utilization or business performance. This study also proves that the use of POS data analytics has a positive and significant impact on improving business process performance, where the activity of transforming transaction data into managerial insights acts as a key mediator.
