Abstract
Amonia merupakan limbah utama dari sistem akuakultur yang berpotensi menurunkan kualitas air dan menyebabkan toksisitas pada ikan maupun tanaman dalam sistem akuaponik. Mikroalga diketahui mampu menyerap amonia dan mengubahnya menjadi biomassa organik, sehingga berpotensi besar digunakan sebagai agen bioremediasi dalam sistem akuaponik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji respon morfologi tiga jenis mikroalga diataranya Spirulina platensis, Chlorella vulgaris, dan Haematococcus pluvialis pada media pertumbuhan dengan penambahan amonia. Metode yang digunakan yaitu dengan memberikan konsentrasi amonia yang berbeda yaitu 0 ppm (kontrol), 10 ppm, 20 ppm, dan 30 ppm dalam media kultur dan diamati pada fase eksponensial akhir. Parameter utama yang diamati meliputi perubahan warna, bentuk, ukuran sel dan kepadatan sel, Sedangkan parameter pendukung meliputi suhu dan pH. Analisis data dilakukan dengan ANOVA One Way dan dilanjutkan uji Tukey HSD pada taraf kepercayaan 95%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa peningkatan konsentrasi amonia menyebabkan penurunan kepadatan sel pada ketiga spesies mikroalga. Pada S. platensis, amonia menyebabkan pemudaran warna kultur, perubahan bentuk filamen dari spiral menjadi lurus, serta penurunan panjang filamen. Pada C. vulgaris, amonia menyebabkan pemudaran warna, degradasi struktur internal sel, serta penurunan diameter dan luas permukaan sel. Sementara itu, H. pluvialis menunjukkan pemudaran warna dengan mempertahankan bentuk sel bulat serta mengalami peningkatan diameter dan luas permukaan sel pada perlakuan amonia.

Ammonia is a major waste product in aquaculture systems and has the potential to reduce water quality and cause toxicity to both fish and plants in aquaponic systems. Microalgae are known to assimilate ammonia and convert it into organic biomass, making them promising bioremediation agents for aquaponic applications. This study aimed to investigate the morphological responses of three microalgal species Spirulina platensis, Chlorella vulgaris, and Haematococcus pluvialis when cultivated in growth media supplemented with ammonia. The experiment was conducted by exposing the microalgae to different ammonia concentrations, namely 0 ppm (control), 10 ppm, 20 ppm, and 30 ppm, and observations were performed at the end of the exponential growth phase. The primary parameters evaluated included changes in culture color, cell morphology, cell size, and cell density, while temperature and pH were measured as supporting parameters. Data were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), followed by Tukey’s HSD test at a 95% confidence level. The results showed that increasing ammonia concentrations led to a decline in cell density in all three microalgal species. In S. platensis, ammonia exposure caused culture discoloration, transformation of filament morphology from spiral to straight forms, and a reduction in filament length. In C. vulgaris, ammonia induced color fading, degradation of intracellular structures, and decreases in cell diameter and surface area. In contrast, H. pluvialis exhibited color fading while maintaining its spherical cell morphology and showed increases in cell diameter and surface area under ammonia treatments.
