Abstract

Salah satu tenaga penggerak utama dalam sarana transportasi diantaranya rul!alah motor bensin dan motor diesel. Mo1or bakar mempergunakm beberapa silinder yang di dalamnya terdpat torak yang berger.tk translasi. Didalam silinder tersebut terjadi proses pembakaran antara campuran bahan bakar dan udara. Perbandingan campuran udara dan bahan bakar (fuel - air ratio ) sangat berpengaruh terhadap proses pembakaran pada ruang bakar. Perbandingan campuran yang seimbang (campuran stoiliometri) serta kehomogenan campuran bahan bakar dan udara menyebabkan pembltkaran lebih sempurna sehingga daya engine yang dihasilkan maksimal. Dalam penelitian ini dilakukan metode penelitian eksperimental (true expel"imental research) dengan Intake manifold standar, powerman dan variasi swirl bagian atas. setiap intake manifold di uji deng;m kondisi putaran 2500 - 7000 rpm dengan full open throttle menggunakan water brake dynamometer. Pengujian dilakukan dengan menggunakan motor bensin 4 langkah satu silinder deng;an bahan bakar bensin premium. Dari basil penelitian tersebut terlihat bahwa aliran yang terbentuk pada intake manifold mempengaruhi nilai Torsi, BHP, Bmep, Bsfc dan efisiensi thennis. Semakin tinggi kondisi putaran maka head loss yang dihasikan tiap variasi intake manifold lebih besar dibanding standar. Hal ini memberikan efek pada perfonna engine, sehingga campuran baban hakar dan udara yang homogen tidak sebanding dengan head lost yang dihasilkan tiap - tiap variasi intake manifold pada kondisi putaran tinggi.

The prime mover in transportation devices are spark ignition engine and compression ignition engine. Internal combustion use cylinders which has piston doing the translation motion. Combustion proce5s between fuel mixture and air take place in thesee cylinders. The comparation air and fuel mixture (fuel - air ratio) can influence the combustion process in cylinders. The appropriate mixture 's ratio (stoichiometric mixture) and mixture's homogenity between fuel and air can produce complete combustion so that the engine power which is prouced can be maximum. This research use true experimental research method with standard intake manifold, powerman and modification of uppler section swirl. Each intake manifold had been tested on 2500 - 7500 rpm, full open throttle by using water brake dynamometer. This research had been done by using 4 stroke spark ignition engine with one cliynder using premium type of petrolium as the fuel. Based on the resul1 of the research , it can be concluded that how which is formed in intake manifold can influence to the value of torque, BHP, Bmep, Bsfc and thermal effeciency. Higher heatloss produced in modificated intake manifold compared with standard intake manifold. Those gives different effect to the engine performance, so tha1: the homogenous the mixture of fuel and air is unproportional with head loss produced on every modification of intake mani fold in high rpm.
