Abstract
Peningkatan kebutuhan microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) di Indonesia yang belum dapat dipenuhi oleh produksi domestik menjadi latar belakang perancangan pabrik MCC ini. Proyek ini bertujuan untuk merancang pabrik MCC dengan kapasitas produksi 3.000 ton per tahun, menggunakan kayu sengon (Falcataria Moluccana) sebagai bahan baku utama. Hasil studi menunjukkan bahwa pabrik MCC ini berpotensi mengurangi ketergantungan impor MCC serta membuka peluang ekspor, seiring dengan meningkatnya permintaan MCC dalam industri farmasi, makanan, dan kosmetik. Kayu sengon dipilih karena memiliki kandungan holoselulosa yang tinggi hingga 56% dan pertumbuhan yang cepat dibandingkan kayu yang lain, serta tersebar luas di wilayah Indonesia. Proses produksi MCC melibatkan beberapa tahap utama, yaitu pulping kimiawi metode soda, bleaching secara Totally Chlorine-Free (TCF), hidrolisis asam untuk pembentukan MCC, dan pengeringan menggunakan tray dryer. Pemilihan teknologi dilakukan berdasarkan pertimbangan teknis, ekonomi, dan dampak lingkungan. Lokasi di Kabupaten Pasuruan, Jawa Timur dipilih dengan mempertimbangkan akses bahan baku, sarana transportasi, ketersediaan utilitas, pemasaran, ketersediaan tenaga kerja, dan legalitas. Berdasarkan dengan serangkaian uraian proses yang dilakukan, kayu sengon dengan laju alir 2983,87 kg/jam dapat menghasilkan 1515,1 kg/jam MCC dengan kemurnian 99,875 %. Berdasarkan analisis ekonomi yang telah dilakukan, didapatkan penaksiran model (CAPEX) sebesar Rp. 341.591.573.887,35; biaya operasional (OPEX) sebesar Rp. 291.241.868.808,49 per tahun. Estimasi umur pabrik adalah 15 tahun. Berdasarkan perhitungan didapatkan nilai IRR sebesar 36,03%; POT selama 2,4 tahun; dengan BEP sebesar 23,43%; dan NPV yang bernilai positif yaitu Rp853.633.962.320,92. Berdasarkan hasil analisis dan perhitungan ekonomi, pendirian pabrik MCC dengan kapasitas 3.000 ton per tahun layak untuk didirikan.

The increasing domestic demand for microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) in Indonesia, which has not yet been fulfilled by local production, serves as the basis for designing an MCC manufacturing plant. This project aims to design an MCC plant with a production capacity of 3,000 tons per year, utilizing sengon wood (Falcataria moluccana) as the main raw material. The study indicates that the proposed MCC plant has the potential to reduce Indonesia’s dependence on imported MCC and to create export opportunities, in line with the growing demand for MCC in the pharmaceutical, food, and cosmetic industries. Sengon wood was selected due to its high holocellulose content of up to 56%, rapid growth compared to other wood species, and wide availability across Indonesia. The MCC production process consists of several main stages, including chemical pulping using the soda process, Totally ChlorineFree (TCF) bleaching, acid hydrolysis for MCC formation, and drying using a tray dryer. Technology selection was carried out based on technical, economic, and environmental considerations. Pasuruan Regency, East Java, was chosen as the plant location by considering raw material availability, transportation infrastructure, utility supply, market access, labor availability, and regulatory aspects. Based on the process design, sengon wood with a flow rate of 2,983.87 kg/h can produce 1,515.1 kg/h of MCC with a purity of 99.875%. The economic analysis estimates a capital expenditure (CAPEX) of IDR 341,591,573,887.35 and annual operating expenses (OPEX) of IDR 291,241,868,808.49, with an estimated plant lifetime of 15 years. The project yields an internal rate of return (IRR) of 36.03%, a payout time (POT) of 2.4 years, a break-even point (BEP) of 23.43%, and a positive net present value (NPV) of IDR 853.633.962.320,92. Based on the technical and economic evaluation, the establishment of an MCC plant with a capacity of 3,000 tons per year is considered economically feasible.
