Abstract
PT. Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk. sebagai industri semen yang memiliki kebutuhan energi panas tinggi dengan batubara sebagai bahan bakar utama pada Suspension Preheater dan Rotary Kiln. Penyimpanan batubara dalam jumlah besar pada area Coal Crushing Transport (CCT) berpotensi menimbulkan self combustion akibat oksidasi eksotermis, yang berdampak pada gangguan operasional, penurunan kualitas batubara, serta peningkatan biaya penanganan. Kegiatan magang ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi faktor penyebab terjadinya self combustion pada storage batubara serta mengevaluasi efektivitas metode compacting sebagai langkah preventif, di samping pemahaman umum terhadap proses produksi semen, identifikasi bahaya melalui HIRADC dan HAZOP, serta perhitungan neraca massa dan energi pada beberapa unit proses. Metode yang digunakan meliputi observasi lapangan, studi literatur, serta analisis menggunakan fishbone diagram untuk mengidentifikasi faktor material, metode, lingkungan, manusia, dan peralatan yang memengaruhi terjadinya self combustion. Efektivitas metode compacting dievaluasi berdasarkan data pemantauan temperatur, frekuensi pemadaman, serta waktu tinggal batubara di storage. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan bahwa metode compacting efektif menekan potensi self combustion, ditandai dengan temperatur timbunan yang tetap berada di bawah 50°C selama tiga bulan pemantauan dan tidak diperlukannya kegiatan pemadaman rutin. Optimalisasi zona CCT dari enam menjadi lima zona aktif juga menurunkan waktu tinggal batubara dari 28 hari menjadi 23 hari. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut, dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerapan metode compacting mampu meningkatkan keselamatan operasional, menurunkan biaya penanganan, serta mendukung pencapaian operational excellence dan program Next-Gen Operation Improvement.

PT. Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk., as a cement industry with high thermal energy requirements, uses coal as the main fuel for the Suspension Preheater and Rotary Kiln. Storing large quantities of coal in the Coal Crushing Transport (CCT) area poses a risk of self combustion caused by exothermic oxidation, which affects operational continuity, reduces coal quality, and increases handling costs. This internship aims to identify the factors causing self combustion in coal storage and to evaluate the effectiveness of the compacting method as a preventive measure, in addition to gaining a general understanding of the cement production process, hazard identification through HIRADC and HAZOP, and mass and energy balance calculations for several process units. The methods used include field observation, literature study, and analysis using a fishbone diagram to identify the material, method, environmental, human, and equipment factors influencing self combustion. The effectiveness of the compacting method was evaluated based on temperature monitoring data, fire-extinguishing frequency, and coal residence time in storage. The evaluation results show that the compacting method effectively suppresses the potential for self combustion, indicated by pile temperatures remaining below 50°C throughout the three-month monitoring period and the elimination of routine extinguishing activities. Optimizing the CCT zones from six to five active zones also reduced coal residence time from 28 days to 23 days. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the application of the compacting method improves operational safety, reduces handling costs, and supports the achievement of operational excellence and the Next-Gen Operation Improvement program.
