Abstract

Air quality monitoring of gaseous pollutants in Jabodetabek remains limited, with only three EANET stations (BMKG Cibeureum, IPB Bogor, and BPPT Serpong) covering an area of more than 6,000 km². Sentinel-5P TROPOMI provides Vertical Column Density (VCD) data for atmospheric pollutants such as CO, NO₂, O₃, SO₂, CH₄, and HCHO with wide spatial coverage, yet VCD (mol/m²) does not directly represent near-surface concentrations (µg/m³). This study develops surface concentration estimates of CO, NO₂, and O₃ using a local empirical column height (H₂) approach calibrated from collocated Sentinel-5P VCD and in-situ observations at the three EANET stations. Estimates were computed using a global reference column height (SC₁) and a local empirical column height (SC₂), evaluated by comparing both against in-situ measurements using R², RMSE, and NMAE. The SC₂ model was applied in Google Earth Engine to map pollutant concentration distributions for 2019–2025. Results show H₂ values of 2.58 km (CO), 0.35 km (NO₂), and 141.27 km (O₃). SC₂ improved estimation performance for all pollutants compared to SC₁, demonstrating that the local empirical column height approach can enhance Sentinel-5P-based surface pollutant concentration estimates in tropical urban areas.
