Abstract
Kegiatan magang di PT Clariant Adsorbents Indonesia Site Cileungsi bertujuan mengintegrasikan kompetensi teknik kimia dengan praktik industri serta menganalisis permasalahan efisiensi energi pada Rotary Dryer Line 5 dalam proses produksi bleaching earth. Kegiatan yang dilakukan meliputi pengamatan proses produksi, pengendalian mutu, penerapan keselamatan, kesehatan kerja, dan lingkungan (K3L), pengolahan limbah, penyusunan block flow diagram (BFD), process flow diagram (PFD), dan piping and instrumentation diagram (P&ID), serta identifikasi bahaya menggunakan metode HAZOP. Tugas khusus difokuskan pada analisis kehilangan panas pada Rotary Dryer 5.1 dan 5.2 melalui pengumpulan data operasi, perhitungan neraca massa dan energi, identifikasi sumber kehilangan panas, serta evaluasi skenario heat recovery dan peningkatan insulasi termal. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa efisiensi termal rotary dryer sekitar 75%, sehingga sekitar 25% energi masukan hilang terutama melalui gas buang bersuhu 180–200 °C dan perpindahan panas melalui dinding dryer. Dengan asumsi 20% kehilangan panas gas buang dapat dipulihkan dan kehilangan panas melalui dinding dapat dikurangi sebesar 50%, diperoleh potensi penghematan energi sebesar 1,17 GJ/jam. Nilai tersebut setara dengan penurunan konsumsi gas alam sekitar 23,3 kg/jam atau 10% dari konsumsi awal. Kombinasi heat recovery dan peningkatan insulasi diproyeksikan meningkatkan efisiensi termal hingga sekitar 85%. Rekomendasi yang diberikan meliputi penerapan sistem heat recovery, peningkatan kualitas insulasi, serta pemantauan temperatur gas buang dan permukaan dryer secara berkala.

The internship at PT Clariant Adsorbents Indonesia, Cileungsi Site, aimed to integrate chemical engineering competencies with industrial practice and analyze energy efficiency issues in the Line 5 rotary dryers used in bleaching earth production. The activities included observing production processes, quality control, occupational health, safety, and environmental management, waste treatment, preparing block flow diagrams (BFDs), process flow diagrams (PFDs), and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), as well as identifying potential hazards using the HAZOP method. The specific project focused on analyzing heat loss in Rotary Dryers 5.1 and 5.2 through operational data collection, mass and energy balance calculations, identification of heat-loss sources, and evaluation of heat-recovery and thermal-insulation scenarios. The results showed that the rotary dryers had a thermal efficiency of approximately 75%, indicating that about 25% of the input energy was lost, mainly through flue gas at 180–200 °C and heat transfer through the dryer shell. Assuming that 20% of the flue-gas heat loss could be recovered and shell heat loss could be reduced by 50%, the combined improvements provided potential energy savings of approximately 1.17 GJ/h. This saving was equivalent to reducing natural gas consumption by approximately 23.3 kg/h or 10% of the initial consumption. The combination of heat recovery and improved insulation was projected to increase thermal efficiency to approximately 85%. The proposed recommendations include installing a heat-recovery system, improving thermal insulation, and periodically monitoring the flue-gas and dryer-surface temperatures.
