Abstract

Nondestructive testing (NDT) is performed to evaluate test objects without damaging the tested material. This is applied to ensure that all materials, work, and equipment can run smoothly before the operational phase. Currently, many studies have focused on the Radiography Testing (RT) method in lieu of the Phased Array Ultrasonic Test (PAUT). This study discusses both methods, especially from a technical and economic perspective. The nondestructive test methods used in this study were conventional and digital radiography, as well as phased array ultrasonic tests. This study aims to select the best method for testing high-pressure pipe welding results. In addition, the investment of each method type is analyzed. Finally, it determines whether the investment decision is more feasible than just hiring a job service. The Analytical Hierarchy Process and Techno-economic Analysis were used in this study. This assessment was subjectively obtained from respondents who are decision-making stakeholders and holders of nondestructive test certification at least level 2 about the method used. This study found that as many as 60.55% of the RT method was subjectively selected as the best method for high-pressure pipe welding results. Meanwhile, from an economic perspective, investing in Digital Radiography Testing (DR) is considered more profitable due to its positive NPV, IRR exceeding the stated interest rate, and fast payback period. The final decision will be discussed in detail in this research analysis.
