Abstract

PT JFS oil and gas fields are classified as mature fields experiencing reservoir pressure depletion, increasing water cut, and declining productivity due to long-term reservoir depletion. In line with efforts to enhance oil production while reducing carbon emissions, Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) integrated with Carbon Dioxide Enhanced Oil Recovery (CO2-EOR) has emerged as a promising technology. However, selecting the most suitable field for implementation requires consideration of multiple interrelated technical and non-technical factors. This study aims to determine the priority oil and gas field for CO2-EOR implementation in PT JFS using a Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) approach. Five field alternatives — Prabu, Lima, Ades, Pendekar, and Rambo — were evaluated based on five criteria and thirteen sub-criteria derived from a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs). The Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method was employed to determine the relative weights of the criteria and sub-criteria, while the Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) method was used to rank the field alternatives based on their closeness to the ideal conditions for CO2-EOR implementation. The results show that Reservoir Properties carries the highest criterion weight (0.438), while at the sub-criteria level, Production Realization (0.215) and Permeability (0.183) are the most influential factors. Based on the TOPSIS ranking, the Ades field is identified as the top-priority candidate for CO2-EOR implementation, followed by Prabu, Lima, and Pendekar, while the Rambo field ranks last. The developed AHP-TOPSIS model was validated using a CO2-EOR implementation case study at PT ABC, in which the Sukowan field was identified as the most feasible candidate among three alternatives, confirming the model's consistency with actual technical and operational considerations. The developed model can serve as an objective, systematic, and consistent decision-support tool for CCUS project planning and has the potential to be applied to other oil and gas fields with similar characteristics.
