Abstract
=================================================================================================================================
The development of precision metal manufacturing technology demands efficient production processes with high dimensional accuracy. ADC12 is widely used due to its excellent castability and mechanical strength. This study examines the effect of casting process variations on the hardness and porosity of ADC12 used in a music box frame, comparing sand casting (SC), investment casting block (ICB), and investment casting dipping (ICD), using 3Dprinted Polycast filament patterns. Testing was conducted using Brinell hardness testing (ASTM E10) at three wall-thickness points, along with metallographic analysis and Image based porosity measurement referring to ASTM E1245. Results show that SC produced the highest average hardness (36.67 HBW), followed by ICB (36.34 HBW), with ICD lowest (33.32 HBW). One-Way ANOVA confirmed that casting method significantly affects hardness (F = 4.51; P = 0.022), and Tukey's post-hoc test showed a significant difference only between SC and ICD. Regarding porosity, SC produced the lowest porosity (0.513%), followed by ICB (1.571%), and ICD the highest (3.571%), all remaining below the 4% threshold set for this study. Overall, SC and ICB produced comparable and superior mechanical quality relative to ICD, providing a basis for developing 3D-printing-pattern-based precision metal manufacturing to support small-component production innovation in the creative industry sector.
