Abstract

PT Kaltim Parna Industri merupakan perusahaan petrokimia penghasil amonia di Bontang, Kalimantan Timur. Lingkungan operasi yang mengandung gas alam dan material mudah terbakar menuntut keandalan sistem proteksi serta keselamatan pekerja terhadap bahaya busur api. Namun, studi bahaya busur api secara kuantitatif belum pernah dilakukan pada sistem kelistrikan PT KPI. Penelitian ini mengevaluasi koordinasi proteksi pada kondisi eksisting, melakukan resetting rele arus lebih untuk memperbaiki selektivitas, serta menganalisis bahaya busur api berdasarkan standar IEEE 1584-2002. Hasil perhitungan kemudian diverifikasi menggunakan metode kurva syarat batas energi, yaitu dengan menumpang-tindihkan kurva batas energi tiap kategori PPE di atas kurva TCC hasil resetting sehingga dapat dievaluasi secara visual apakah setting proteksi telah berada pada batas aman. Simulasi dilakukan menggunakan ETAP 21.0.1 pada beberapa bus representatif di level tegangan 11 kV, 6,9 kV, dan 0,525 kV. Penentuan kategori PPE mengacu pada standar NFPA 70E-2021. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa resetting memperbaiki selektivitas dan menurunkan energi insiden pada sebagian besar bus yang dianalisis. Evaluasi menggunakan kurva syarat batas energi mengonfirmasi konsistensi penentuan kategori PPE dengan metode IEEE 1584-2002, sehingga metode ini dapat digunakan sebagai alat bantu evaluasi yang efektif dalam analisis bahaya busur api.

PT Kaltim Parna Industri is a petrochemical company producing ammonia, located in Bontang, East Kalimantan. The operating environment, which involves natural gas and flammable materials, demands a high level of protection system reliability and worker safety against arc flash hazards. However, a quantitative arc flash hazard study has never been conducted on the electrical system of PT KPI. This study evaluates the existing protection coordination, performs overcurrent relay resetting to improve selectivity, and analyzes arc flash hazards based on the IEEE 1584-2002 standard. The calculation results are then verified using the energy boundary curve method, in which the energy boundary curves for each PPE category are overlaid onto the resetting TCC curves to visually assess whether the protection settings fall within safe limits. Simulations are carried out using ETAP 21.0.1 on several representative buses at 11 kV, 6.9 kV, and 0.525 kV voltage levels. PPE category determination refers to the NFPA 70E-2021 standard. The analysis results show that resetting improves selectivity and reduces incident energy at most of the analyzed buses. The evaluation using the energy boundary curve method confirms the consistency of PPE category determination with the IEEE 1584-2002 method, demonstrating that this approach can serve as an effective evaluation tool in arc flash hazard analysis.
