Abstract

Ekosistem lamun merupakan habitat pesisir yang memiliki peran ekologis penting, namun terus mengalami tekanan akibat aktivitas manusia yang memicu penurunan luas tutupan dan kualitasnya secara global. Lamun sangat responsif terhadap perubahan lingkungan melalui parameter struktural, fisiologis, dan biokimia. Selain itu, kemampuannya mengakumulasi logam berat menjadikannya sangat potensial sebagai bioindikator sekaligus sarana fitoremediasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menilai status padang lamun menggunakan pendekatan Seagrass Ecological Quality Index (SEQI) serta mengkaji hubungannya dengan dinamika kualitas air laut di pesisir Kecamatan Sepulu, Kabupaten Bangkalan.
Penentuan status padang lamun (SEQI) dilakukan melalui survei lapangan menggunakan metode garis transek dan petak kuadrat. Parameter utama meliputi keanekaragaman jenis lamun, persentase tutupan, ketinggian kanopi, dan kelimpahan epifit. Pengujian kualitas perairan dilakukan pada fase pasang dan surut, mencakup parameter Total Padatan Tersuspensi (TSS), suhu, pH, salinitas, Oksigen Terlarut (DO), BOD₅, dan nitrat. Lebih lanjut, analisis komparatif diterapkan untuk melihat korelasi antara indeks status padang lamun dan parameter kualitas air.
Hasil penelitian mengindikasikan adanya variasi pada kualitas ekologi padang lamun di pesisir Kecamatan Sepulu. Berdasarkan nilai indeks SEQI, Desa Maneron (0,33) dan Desa Labuhan (0,36) menunjukkan kondisi ekologi yang sama-sama tergolong sangat buruk. Status padang lamun (SEQI) terbukti berbanding lurus dengan kualitas air pesisir. Studi ini menyimpulkan bahwa padang lamun memiliki potensi sedang sebagai bioindikator perairan pesisir, dan direkomendasikan untuk program pemantauan jangka panjang.

Seagrass ecosystems are coastal habitats that play an important ecological role, yet they continue to experience pressure from human activities, triggering a decline in their coverage area and quality globally. Seagrasses are highly responsive to environmental changes through structural, physiological, and biochemical parameters. Furthermore, their ability to accumulate heavy metals makes them highly potential as bioindicators as well as an agent for phytoremediation. This study aims to assess the status of seagrass meadows using the Seagrass Ecological Quality Index (SEQI) approach and to examine its relationship with the dynamics of seawater quality in the coastal area of Sepulu District, Bangkalan Regency.
The determination of seagrass meadow status (SEQI) was conducted through a field survey using the line transect and quadrant transect methods. The main parameters included seagrass species diversity, percentage cover, canopy height, and epiphyte abundance. Water quality testing was carried out during the high and low tide phases, encompassing parameters such as Total Suspended Solids (TSS), temperature, pH, salinity, Dissolved Oxygen (DO), BOD₅, and nitrate. Furthermore, a comparative analysis was applied to determine the correlation between the seagrass meadow status index and water quality parameters.
The results of the study indicated variations in the ecological quality of seagrass meadows on the coast of Sepulu District. Based on the SEQI index values, Maneron Village (0.33) and Labuhan Village (0.36) both exhibited ecological conditions classified as very poor. The status of the seagrass meadows (SEQI) proved to be directly proportional to the coastal water quality. This study concludes that seagrass meadows have a moderate potential as bioindicators for coastal waters, and they are recommended for long-term monitoring programs.
