Abstract
Ikan gabus (Channa striata) merupakan komoditas perikanan air tawar yang memiliki nilai ekonomi dan gizi tinggi karena kandungan albuminnya, sehingga berperan penting dalam pemenuhan kebutuhan protein masyarakat. Populasinya tersebar luas di Indonesia dan mampu beradaptasi pada berbagai kondisi perairan, namun tekanan eksploitasi akibat meningkatnya permintaan pasar berpotensi menurunkan keberlanjutan stok di alam. Oleh karena itu, informasi biologi reproduksi, khususnya Tingkat Kematangan Gonad (TKG), menjadi krusial untuk mendukung kegiatan konservasi dan budidaya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui tingkat kematangan gonad (TKG), morfometri, fekunditas ikan gabus (C. striata) yang ditangkap pada perairan Kabupaten Sidoarjo sebagai potensi dalam budidaya pembenihan. Pada penelitian ini pengamatan TKG menggunakan metode pengamatan morfologi dan morfometrik. Parameter pengukuran morfometrik dilakukan dengan mengukur panjang total tubuh (TL), panjang standart (SL), berat tubuh, serta Gonadosomatic Index (GSI). Pengukuran fekunditas pada penelitian ini dilakukan dengan mengukur jumlah telur pada gonad ikan gabus betina. Penelitian ini menggunakan analisis data deskriptif dan kuantitatif yang disajikan dalam bentuk tabel dan deskripsi hasil penelitian. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ikan gabus jantan didominasi TKG II (60%) dan TKG I (40%), sedangkan ikan betina didominasi TKG III (60%) dan TKG II (40%). Panjang total ikan jantan berkisar 33,4–40,5 cm dan betina 29,7–41,5 cm, dengan berat tubuh masing-masing 307–510 g dan 230–622 g. Fekunditas hanya ditemukan pada ikan betina TKG III, yaitu sebesar 7.682, 16.464, dan 8.602 butir telur. Nilai GSI berkisar antara 0,065–10,788%, dengan nilai tertinggi terdapat pada ikan betina TKG III yang menunjukkan gonad telah matang dan siap memijah. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar ikan betina telah memasuki fase reproduksi matang, sedangkan ikan jantan masih berada pada fase perkembangan gonad. Dengan demikian, ikan gabus hasil tangkapan di Kabupaten Sidoarjo memiliki potensi sebagai calon induk dalam budidaya pembenihan berdasarkan tingkat kematangan gonad, nilai GSI, dan fekunditas yang mendukung keberhasilan reproduksi.

Snakehead fish (Channa striata) is a freshwater fish commodity with high economic and nutritional value due to its high albumin content, making it an important source of dietary protein for the community. This species is widely distributed throughout Indonesia and is capable of adapting to various aquatic environments. However, increasing exploitation driven by growing market demand may threaten the sustainability of natural populations. Therefore, information on reproductive biology, particularly the Gonadal Maturity Stage (GMS), is essential to support conservation and aquaculture development. This study aimed to determine the Gonadal Maturity Stage (GMS), morphometric characteristics, and fecundity of wild-caught Channa striata from the waters of Sidoarjo Regency as a potential broodstock resource for hatchery cultivation. Gonadal maturity was assessed through morphological and morphometric observations. The morphometric parameters measured included total length (TL), standard length (SL), body weight, and the Gonadosomatic Index (GSI). Fecundity was determined by counting the number of eggs in the ovaries of female fish. The data were analyzed using descriptive and quantitative methods and presented in tables and descriptive explanations. The results showed that male fish were dominated by GMS II (60%) and GMS I (40%), whereas female fish were dominated by GMS III (60%) and GMS II (40%). The total length ranged from 33.4–40.5 cm in males and 29.7–41.5 cm in females, with body weights ranging from 307–510 g and 230–622 g, respectively. Fecundity was observed only in female fish at GMS III, with egg numbers of 7,682, 16,464, and 8,602, respectively. The GSI ranged from 0.065% to 10.788%, with the highest value recorded in a female at GMS III, indicating fully mature gonads ready for spawning. These findings indicate that most female fish had reached reproductive maturity, whereas most male fish were still in the gonadal development stage. Therefore, wild-caught Channa striata from Sidoarjo Regency have considerable potential as broodstock for hatchery cultivation based on their gonadal maturity, GSI values, and fecundity, which support successful reproduction.
