Abstract
Bird strike merupakan salah satu ancaman terhadap keselamatan penerbangan yang terjadi akibat tabrakan antara burung dan pesawat, terutama pada fase lepas landas (take-off) dan pendaratan (landing). Bandara Internasional Juanda termasuk bandara dengan tingkat risiko bird strike yang tinggi, di mana Cangak abu (Ardea cinerea) dan Cangak merah (Ardea purpurea) merupakan dua spesies burung yang berpotensi menyebabkan kejadian tersebut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pola perilaku harian Cangak abu dan Cangak merah serta menganalisis hubungan antara frekuensi perilaku terbang (flying) dengan potensi terjadinya bird strike di Bandara Internasional Juanda. Pengambilan data dilakukan di area airside Bandara Internasional Juanda menggunakan metode observasi langsung melalui kombinasi scan sampling dan ad libitum sampling. Perilaku yang diamati meliputi mencari makan (foraging), beristirahat (resting), terbang (flying), dan agonistik (agonistic). Data dianalisis secara deskriptif-kuantitatif dan hubungan antara frekuensi perilaku terbang dengan data bird strike dianalisis menggunakan uji korelasi Spearman. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan pola perilaku harian Cangak abu cenderung memiliki pola aktivitas dengan proporsi tidak jauh berbeda antara perilaku mencari makan (foraging), beristirahat (resting), dan terbang (flying), dengan kecenderungan lebih sering memanfaatkan area terbuka, terutama di pond barat. Sebaliknya, Cangak merah didominasi oleh aktivitas mencari makan (foraging) serta menunjukkan perilaku agonistik pada beberapa waktu pengamatan terutama pada area dengan vegetasi lebih rapat. Hubungan antara frekuensi perilaku terbang (flying) dengan potensi terjadinya bird strike menunjukkan bahwa tidak ada hubungan korelasi antara frekuensi perilaku terbang dengan data kejadian bird strike.

Bird strike is one of the major threats to aviation safety, occurring when birds collide with aircraft, particularly during the take-off and landing phases. Juanda International Airport is considered an airport with a high risk of bird strikes, where the Grey Heron and Purple Heron are two bird species with the potential to cause such incidents. This study aimed to determine the daily behavioral patterns of the Grey Heron and Purple Heron and to analyze the relationship between the frequency of flying behavior and the potential occurrence of bird strikes at Juanda International Airport. Data were collected in the airside area of Juanda International Airport through direct observation using a combination of scan sampling and ad libitum sampling methods. The observed behaviors included foraging, resting, flying, and agonistic behavior. The data were analyzed using descriptive quantitative methods, while the relationship between the frequency of flying behavior and bird strike incidents was examined using Spearman's rank correlation test. The results showed that the Grey Heron exhibited a relatively balanced daily activity pattern, with similar proportions of foraging, resting, and flying behaviors, and tended to utilize open habitats, particularly the western pond area. In contrast, The Purple Heron was dominated by foraging activity and exhibited agonistic behavior during several observation periods, particularly in areas characterized by denser vegetation. The analysis of the relationship between flying behavior frequency and bird strike incidents indicated that there was no significant correlation between the frequency of flying behavior and recorded bird strike occurrences
