Abstract

The Bendomongal River in Tiron Village, Kediri Regency, floods repeatedly amid land use change driven by the Dhoho Airport, Gelora Daha Jayati Stadium, and Kediri–Tulungagung Toll Road projects, yet its channel capacity has never been evaluated. This study determines the design rainfall and flood discharge, evaluates existing cross section capacity, and designs flood control measures. Twenty-six years of annual maximum daily rainfall (2000–2025) from five stations were processed using the Thiessen Polygon method. Gumbel was selected through Chi-Square and Smirnov-Kolmogorov tests, yielding a 25-year design rainfall of 126.22 mm. Two methods were applied: the Nakayasu Synthetic Unit Hydrograph (79.89 m³/s) and SCS-CN through HEC-HMS (109.70 m³/s). As the watershed is ungauged, both were validated against the documented 23 December 2024 flood (areal rainfall 107.74 mm). Both consistently predicted overtopping and could not eliminate one another, so the design discharge was conservatively set at Q25 = 79,89 m³/s. Steady flow HEC-RAS 1D modelling of 51 cross sections showed 47 unable to convey this discharge. Flood control was designed along four reaches over 5.8 km with normalization and leeve reinforced by FCSP 500.220 K-500 sheet piles through densely settled reaches, with 0.6 m freeboard. Verification confirmed all designed sections are safe against Q25.
