Abstract

Industri manufaktur berbasis serbuk logam berkembang pesat, dengan iron powder sebagai salah satu bahan baku utamanya karena penggunaannya yang luas pada sektor konstruksi, komponen otomotif, dan metalurgi. Di Indonesia, kebutuhan iron powder masih banyak dipenuhi melalui impor sehingga menimbulkan output gap yang membuka peluang produksi dalam negeri. Tugas akhir ini mensajikan pra-desain pabrik iron powder berbasis proses electrowinning dengan bijih besi hematit (Fe2O3) sebagai bahan baku utama, didukung oleh NaOH sebagai elektrolit dan Na2SO4 sebagai komponen pendukung elektrolit. Pabrik ini dirancang dengan kapasitas 10.000 ton/tahun dan berlokasi di Kawasan Industri Garongkong, Kabupaten Barru, Sulawesi Selatan, yang dipilih karena kedekatannya dengan sumber bahan baku, ketersediaan infrastruktur pendukung seperti pelabukan dan bandar udara yang memadai, serta harga lahan yang kompetitif. Proses produksi terdiri atas proses pre-treatment (crushing, grinding, magnetic separation, dan fine grinding) dimana bijih besi dihaluskan hingga ukuran 10 μm, alkaline leaching menggunakan NaOH 4 M pada suhu 180oC dan tekanan 10 bar untuk menurunkan kadar silika, dilanjutkan dengan proses filtrasi untuk menghilangkan sisa fluida basah pada bijih besi, proses mixing dengan elektrolit NaOH dan pendukung elektrolit Na2SO4, electrowinning dengan mereduksi oksida besi secara elektrokimia menjadi besi metalik dengan kemurnian sebesar 99%, serta proses washing untuk membersihkan iron powder dari elektrolit tersisa. Proses electrowinning dipilih dibandingkan blast furnace, H2-DRI, dan NG-DRI karena menghasilkan kemurnian produk yang tinggi dan emisi karbon yang jauh lebih rendah. Hasil evaluasi ekonomi menunjukkan TCI sebesar US$93.892.184,32, OPEX sebesar Rp333.687.962.291,8, NPV positif sebesar Rp4.941.616.685.390,22, IRR sebesar 24,14%, POT selama 4,7 tahun, dan BEP sebesar 20%. Berdasarkan indikator tersebut, pabrik iron powder layak secara teknis dan ekonomi untuk didirikan.

The powder based manufacturing industry is growing rapidly, with iron powder as one of its principal raw materials due to its wide use in construction, automotive components, and metallurgy. In Indonesia, domestic demand is still largely met through imports, creating an output gap that opens an opportunity for local production. This final project presents the pre-design of an iron powder plant based on electrowinning process, using hematite iron ore (Fe2O3) as the main raw material supported by NaOH and Na2SO4. The plant is designed with a production capacity of 10,000 tons/year and is located in the Garongkong Industrial Estate, Barru Regency, South Sulawesi, which was selected for its proximity to raw materials, supporting infrastructure such as port and airport, and competitive land cost. The production process comprises pre-treatment (crushing, grinding, magnetic separation, and fine grinding down to 10 μm), alkaline leaching with 4 M NaOH at 180oC and 10 bar to reduce silica content, filtration, mixing with a Na2SO4 and NaOH 50% as electrolyte, electrowinning to electrochemically reduce iron oxide into metallic iron with a purity of approximately 99%, and washing to rinse the remaining electrolyte from iron powder. The electrowinning process was selected over blast furnace, H2-DRI, and NG-DRI processes because of its high product purity and significantly lower carbon emissions. The economic evaluation yields a TCI of US$93.892.184,32, an OPEX of Rp333.687.962.291,8, a positive NPV of Rp4.941.616.685.390,22, an IRR of 24,14%, a POT of 479 years, and a BEP of 20%. Based on these indicators, the iron powder plant is technically and economically feasible to be established
