Abstract

Kegiatan magang dilaksanakan di PT Petrokimia Gresik pada Departemen Produksi IIB dengan tujuan memperoleh pemahaman mengenai penerapan ilmu teknik kimia dalam industri pupuk, meliputi proses produksi, pengendalian mutu, keselamatan kerja, dan pengolahan limbah. Selain mempelajari proses produksi pupuk NPK, Phonska, dan ZK, dilakukan tugas khusus berupa troubleshooting pada cyclone 22 D-324 di Pabrik NPK Phonska IV yang berfungsi memisahkan partikel debu dari aliran gas. Hasil observasi menunjukkan bahwa efisiensi pemisahan cyclone hanya sebesar 68,55%, lebih rendah dari standar desain, sehingga meningkatkan jumlah partikel yang lolos ke sistem downstream, risiko fouling, serta emisi partikulat. Analisis dilakukan melalui observasi lapangan, wawancara, studi literatur, dan Root Cause Analysis (RCA), yang menunjukkan bahwa rendahnya efisiensi dipengaruhi oleh kecepatan udara masuk yang belum optimal, yaitu 10 m/s. Upaya perbaikan dilakukan dengan modifikasi geometri cyclone dan variasi kecepatan udara masuk pada rentang 13-25 m/s. Hasil perhitungan menunjukkan bahwa peningkatan kecepatan udara hingga 25 m/s mampu meningkatkan efisiensi pemisahan hingga mendekati standar desain, sehingga diharapkan dapat meningkatkan stabilitas proses, efisiensi operasional, dan kinerja lingkungan Pabrik NPK Phonska IV.

The internship was conducted at PT Petrokimia Gresik in the Production IIB Department with the objective of gaining a comprehensive understanding of the application of chemical engineering principles in the fertilizer industry, including production processes, quality control, occupational health and safety, and waste management. In addition to studying the production processes of NPK, Phonska, and ZK fertilizers, a special project was carried out focusing on the troubleshooting of Cyclone 22 D-324 in the NPK Phonska IV Plant, which functions to separate dust particles from gas streams. Field observations revealed that the cyclone separation efficiency was only 68.55%, which was lower than the design standard, resulting in increased particle carry-over to downstream systems, a higher risk of fouling, and greater particulate emissions. The analysis was conducted through field observations, interviews, literature reviews, and Root Cause Analysis (RCA), which indicated that the low efficiency was primarily caused by a non-optimal inlet air velocity of 10 m/s. Improvement efforts were proposed through cyclone geometry modification and inlet air velocity variations ranging from 13 to 25 m/s. The results showed that increasing the inlet air velocity to 25 m/s significantly improved the separation efficiency to a value approaching the design standard. Therefore, the proposed improvements are expected to enhance process stability, operational efficiency, and environmental performance in the NPK Phonska IV Plant.
