Abstract
Estimasi umur pabrik ini adalah 10 tahun terhitung sejak pembangunan, dengan Internal Rate of Return (IRR) sebesar 35,17%, Pay Out Time (POT) selama 2,7 tahun, dan Break Even Point (BEP) sebesar 41,22% kapasitas produksi. Dengan berbagai pertimbangan tersebut, pabrik ini layak untuk didirikan.==================================================================================================================================
This sorbitol plant is designed to produce sorbitol from tapioca starch through two main stages, namely enzymatic hydrolysis and catalytic hydrogenation. The enzymatic hydrolysis process uses a combination of α-amylase and glucoamylase enzymes to convert starch into glucose with high conversion efficiency and purity. The next stage is catalytic hydrogenation, in which glucose is reduced to sorbitol using a Raney Nickel catalyst under high temperature and pressure conditions. This technology is selected for its ability to produce high-quality products, achieve efficient processing, and maintain relatively low operational costs compared to electrolytic or biotechnological methods. The main raw material, tapioca starch, is chosen due to its abundant availability in Indonesia, with production reaching more than 15 million tons in 2024, ensuring the continuity of raw material supply. The final product, liquid sorbitol with a purity of ≥70%, has wide applications in the food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic industries. The main objective of this design is to develop a Sorbitol Plant from Tapioca Starch using the Enzymatic Hydrolysis and Catalytic Hydrogenation Process with a capacity of 16,000 tons per year, covering the preparation of the selected process description, the creation of a Process Flow Diagram (PFD), mass and energy balance calculations, HAZOP and P&ID analyses, as well as economic and environmental evaluations. With this capacity, the plant is expected to meet domestic industrial demand while increasing the added value of tapioca-based commodities in Indonesia. For a sorbitol plant with a capacity of 16,000 tons per year, the required total capital investment is IDR 471,002,612,759.94, with total production costs amounting to IDR 483, 853, 598, 912 . The estimated plant lifetime is 10 years starting from the construction phase, with an Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of 36,51%, a Pay Out Time (POT) of 2.7 years, and a Break Even Point (BEP) at 44.42% of production capacity. Based on these considerations, the plant is considered economically feasible to be established
