Abstract

Salinitas tanah merupakan salah satu kendala pada lahan marginal pesisir karena tingginya akumulasi garam terlarut yang menurunkan kualitas tanah, menghambat pertumbuhan, dan menurunkan produktivitas tanaman padi. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis efektivitas biochar bonggol jagung dan biochar sekam padi dengan metode layering terhadap sifat fisikokimia tanah salin, pertumbuhan, dan produktivitas padi (Oryza sativa L.) varietas Mekongga. Penelitian menggunakan dua perlakuan, yaitu biochar bonggol jagung dan biochar sekam padi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa biochar bonggol jagung menghasilkan nilai electrical conductivity (EC) tanah yang lebih rendah (3,32 mS/cm), sedangkan biochar sekam padi sebesar (4,43 mS/cm). Pada fase vegetatif, biochar bonggol jagung menghasilkan tinggi tanaman 56,87 cm, jumlah daun 66,40 helai, dan jumlah anakan 16,60 batang, yang secara signifikan lebih tinggi dibandingkan biochar sekam padi (p < 0,05). Sebaliknya, pada fase pematangan (ripening), biochar sekam padi menghasilkan tinggi tanaman 92,80 cm lebih tinggi dibandingkan biochar bonggol jagung (p < 0,05). Pada komponen hasil, biochar bonggol jagung menghasilkan persentase bulir terisi 46,18% dan hasil bulir per tanaman 4,11 g, lebih tinggi dibandingkan biochar sekam padi yang masing-masing sebesar 13,30% dan 2,59 g (p < 0,05). Secara keseluruhan, biochar bonggol jagung lebih efektif dalam memperbaiki kondisi tanah salin serta meningkatkan pertumbuhan vegetatif dan produktivitas padi varietas Mekongga.

Soil salinity is one of the major constraints in coastal marginal lands due to the high accumulation of soluble salts, which degrades soil quality, inhibits plant growth, and reduces rice productivity. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of corncob biochar and rice husk biochar applied using the layering method in improving the physicochemical properties of saline soil, as well as the growth and productivity of Mekongga rice (Oryza sativa L.). The experiment consisted of two treatments: corncob biochar and rice husk biochar. The results showed that corncob biochar produced a lower soil electrical conductivity (EC) of 3.32 mS/cm compared to 4.43 mS/cm for rice husk biochar. During the vegetative stage, corncob biochar significantly increased plant height to 56.87 cm, leaf number to 66.40 leaves, and tiller number to 16.60 tillers compared to rice husk biochar (p < 0.05). In contrast, during the ripening stage, rice husk biochar resulted in greater plant height (92.80 cm) than corncob biochar (p < 0.05). Regarding yield components, corncob biochar produced a higher percentage of filled grains (46.18%) and grain yield per plant (4.11 g) than rice husk biochar, which produced 13.30% filled grains and 2.59 g grain yield per plant (p < 0.05). Overall, corncob biochar was more effective than rice husk biochar in improving saline soil conditions, promoting vegetative growth, and increasing the productivity of Mekongga rice cultivated on coastal marginal lands.
