Abstract

This study analyzes trends in Land Surface Temperature (LST) in the city of Surabaya during the 2017–2025 period using air temperature data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) for 2017–2025 and Sentinel-3 SLSTR Level 2 LST imagery from the Copernicus portal for 2018–2025. The analysis was conducted using the Mann-Kendall test to detect the presence of trends and Sen’s Slope estimator to measure the rate of temperature change based on the dry and rainy seasons according to the BMKG Dasarian classification. In addition to statistical analysis, this study produced 16 LST spatial distribution maps as well as two composite seasonal average maps processed using SNAP and ArcMap. The results of the BPS data analysis showed no significant trends in either season, with a downward trend of -0.094°C/year during the dry season and -0.150°C/year during the rainy season. Analysis of Copernicus data revealed a warming trend during the dry season with a Sen’s Slope of +1.1564°C/year and a p-value of 0.0635, while the rainy season showed a slight cooling trend with a Sen’s Slope of -0.1088°C/year and a p-value of 1.000. However, neither season has shown a statistically significant trend at the 95% confidence level. Spatially, higher surface temperatures are generally concentrated in the densely built-up areas of Surabaya. The results of this study indicate that the BPS and Sentinel-3 SLSTR data have a short observation period to statistically confirm long-term trends but can provide an overview of seasonal surface temperature dynamics in the city of Surabaya.
