Abstract
Logam tanah jarang, khususnya neodymium (Nd), merupakan material strategis yang banyak digunakan dalam pembuatan magnet permanen, perangkat elektronik, kendaraan listrik, dan teknologi energi terbarukan. Salah satu sumber neodymium yang potensial adalah konsentrat monazite, tetapi kestabilan struktur fosfatnya menyebabkan proses ekstraksi memerlukan tahapan pretreatment sebelum pelindian. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis pengaruh konsentrasi dan temperatur H₂SO₄ terhadap ekstraksi neodymium dari konsentrat monazite. Tahapan penelitian meliputi karakterisasi konsentrat awal, alkaline fusion menggunakan NaOH, water leaching, dan proses leaching menggunakan H₂SO₄. Variasi konsentrasi H₂SO₄ yang digunakan adalah 2, 3, 4, dan 5 M, sedangkan variasi temperatur adalah 70, 80, dan 90 °C. Parameter rasio padat-cair 1:20, kecepatan agitasi 500 rpm, dan waktu leaching 60 menit dijaga konstan. Karakterisasi dilakukan menggunakan XRF, XRD, SEM-EDX, dan ICP-MS. Hasil pengujian ICP-MS menunjukkan bahwa pengaruh konsentrasi H₂SO₄ terhadap pelarutan Nd bersifat tidak linier. Konsentrasi Nd tertinggi diperoleh pada H₂SO₄ 2 M sebesar 18.302,37 ppm, sedangkan pada 3, 4, dan 5 M masing-masing sebesar 15.620; 16.918,61; dan 17.275,47 ppm. Pengaruh temperatur juga menunjukkan pola tidak linier, dengan konsentrasi Nd sebesar 16.757,214 ppm pada 70 °C, 15.389,375 ppm pada 80 °C, dan 16.566,77 ppm pada 90 °C. Kondisi H₂SO₄ 2 M dan temperatur 70 °C menghasilkan ekstraksi relatif Nd sebesar 92,21% terhadap pelarutan pembanding menggunakan aqua regia. Dengan demikian, kondisi terbaik dalam rentang penelitian ini adalah penggunaan H₂SO₄ 2 M pada temperatur 70 °C.

Rare earth elements, particularly neodymium, are strategic materials widely used in permanent magnets, electronic devices, and renewable energy technologies. One potential source of neodymium in Indonesia is monazite concentrate. However, the presence of stable phosphate bonds makes the extraction of rare earth elements from monazite require proper pretreatment and leaching conditions. This study aims to analyze the effect of sulfuric acid concentration and temperature on neodymium recovery during the leaching process of monazite concentrate that has undergone alkaline fusion using NaOH. The initial stage of the study was carried out through alkaline fusion to decompose the phosphate structure of monazite, followed by water leaching and leaching with H₂SO₄ solution at various concentrations and temperatures, while parameters such as time, solid-to-liquid ratio, agitation, and particle size were kept constant. The resulting filtrate from the leaching process was then analyzed to determine the neodymium content, while the residue was characterized to observe phase and composition changes. The results of this study are expected to show that increasing acid concentration and leaching temperature can improve the efficiency of neodymium extraction until optimum conditions are obtained. This research is expected to contribute to the development of an effective hydrometallurgical process for the utilization of rare earth element resources in Indonesia.
